Mid North District Living

Mid North District Living

This historic landmark is representative of Chicago’s recognition as a city of architecture with beautifully-designed homes and residential buildings that speak to the grandeur, affluence and changing architectural styles of the mid 1800s and the early 1900s.

Walking through the smaller residential streets of the neighborhood is like taking a step back in time. Many of the buildings are historic row homes or brick three-flats, with the occasional modern building or high-rise sprinkled throughout the area. The buildings and homes in the Mid-North District often feature touches of ornate details around the windows and doorways, and entries framed by gas-burning lamps and lanterns. It’s a community area that invites you to take a stroll along its streets to appreciate the charm and preservation efforts that give the neighborhood character.

The community’s borders include the bustling streets of Clark Street and Lincoln Avenue, which easily lead to nearby community neighborhoods and also offer a mix of restaurants, cafes, pastry shops, salons, bars, yoga studios and more.

Families looking to buy a home or condo in the Mid-North District will have Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo within walking distance, one of Chicago’s free attractions. This quiet pocket of Chicago is ideal for those who are wanting to buy real estate close to the lakefront and who are willing to spend a good amount for the location and the pleasantries of the neighborhood.

Mid-North District Real Estate

If you’re in the market to buy or condo or purchase a home in an area of the city that is close to the lakefront, then the Mid-North District is an ideal place to look. Real estate in the Mid-North District consists of condos for sale, the occasional townhouse for sale and mid-size to large buildings for sale. The Mid-North District is known for its high concentration of brick row houses which gives the Mid-North District area within Lincoln Park its distinct character. If you’re considering an investment property in the area, talk with a Mid-North District REALTOR® to discuss the properties that are best suited to your investment goals.

Properties in the area are largely historic brick and greystone buildings, perhaps most representative of late 19th and early 20th century residential architecture. A number of condos for sale in the Mid-North District real estate market are renovated units or gut-rehabs, some purposely incorporating vintage charm.

If you’re drawn to the area but are looking for new construction rental options, the 538-unit development called Lincoln Commons may be the answer. The development was completed in early 2019 and features two glass residential towers connected by a ground-level plaza. Amenities for residents of Lincoln Commons range from a rooftop deck and pool, on-site fitness center, coworking space, plus a game room and a private dog run service. Rental prices for these luxury apartments begin in the low $2000 range for a studio and go upwards of $6500 for a three-bedroom unit. The development will soon include a condominium building called The Orchard.

Mid North District Neighborhood Amenities

Oz Park Mid-North District

Oz Park Mid-North District

Bookended to the east and west by two major streets, Clark St and Lincoln Ave, each lined with restaurants, shops, and small businesses, gives this small section of Lincoln Park easy accessibility to many neighborhood amenities.

With major grocers a short distance from the Mid-North District in nearby communities, residents of the area are within walking or a short drive from a grocery store. The neighborhood community does, though, have a small, old-school grocer within its boundaries. Carnival Foods (458 W Dickens Ave), opened in the neighborhood in the 1930s and has undergone various expansions over the years, maintaining its presence as a community grocer.

If you’re especially keen to purchase a home or buy a condo near green space, consider that the Mid-North District has the vastness of Lincoln Park to one side and Oz Park, one of the city’s larger community parks, on the other side. Kids especially enjoy seeing all the characters of The Wizard of Oz in statue form scattered throughout the park.

Speaking of kids, there are a few schools in the vicinity including Francis Parker (330 W Webster Ave), a private, independent school for grades K-12, and Abraham Lincoln Elementary (615 W Kemper Pl), a Chicago Public School for students in grades K-8.
