There are long-time locals who recall the days when Roscoe Village in North Center had a 74-acre amusement park called Riverview Park. Situated along Western Avenue, near Lane Tech High School, Riverview Park had a presence in the area for more than 60 years, inviting families and youth from around the city to try one of its more than 100 rides. While it no longer exists, the neighborhood still stands as a family-friendly zone, beckoning home buyers to take up residence in this north side community. A densely residential part of Chicago, where streets are lined with beautiful homes, many of which were built over a century ago, North Center and Roscoe Village are desirable areas for young couples and families wanting to enjoy the conveniences of urban living while also having some of the attributes of a town or village. Several schools are located within North Center’s boundaries.
You’ll often find locals walking about with their friends, or taking their young children and pets for a stroll, as they pop into some of their favorite neighborhood establishments for a bite to eat or a little something for home. In the summer months, the restaurants and cafés along Roscoe St, which serves as the primary road in Roscoe Village for businesses and shops, will spread out onto their sidewalk patios for al fresco dining. Where is Roscoe Village + North Center?
The North Center neighborhood is bordered by the North Branch of the Chicago River to its west, Ravenswood Ave to its east, Montrose Ave on the north and to the south Diversey Pkwy. Its community area of Roscoe Village comprises the section of the North Center neighborhood that is bound by N Western Ave to the west, Addison St and Belmont Ave on the north and south ends, respectively, and Lincoln Ave to the east.
The North Center neighborhood encompasses part of the 60618 zip code, along with 60613 and 60657. The neighborhood area is divided between the 47th and 32nd Wards.
Roscoe Village + North Center Transportation
Getting to and from Roscoe Village and the larger North Center neighborhood is possible via public transit, either by train or bus. The CTA Brown line Addison St, Irving Park and Paulina stations service the area, as do the following bus routes: #49 / #49B / #X49 Western, #50 Damen, #76 Diversey, #77 Belmont, #78 Montrose, #80 Irving Park and #152 Addison.
Residents can also easily access the I-90 / I-94 Kennedy Expressway via the ramp at Western Ave and Diversey Pkwy. Major streets like Montrose Ave, Irving Park Rd, Western Ave, Damen Ave and Belmont Ave are likely to be used for local traffic routes.

Roscoe Village + North Center Neighborhood Amenities
As a neighborhood that is largely favored by families, schooling is plentiful in Roscoe Village and North Center. Of the area’s elementary schools, parents can choose from Jahn Elementary (3149 N Wolcott Ave), John Coonley Elementary School (4046 N Leavitt St) and Audubon Elementary School (3500 N Hoyne Ave). Students in grades 9-12 have their choice of Alcott College Prep (2957 N Hoyne Ave), DePaul College Prep (3333 N. Rockwell St), a private Catholic school, as well as the top-rated and historic Lane Tech High School (2501 W Addison St).
Sitting on more than 30 acres on the west end of Roscoe Village, Lane Tech is the largest Chicago high school with student enrollment above 4,200. Lane Tech is a selective enrollment, college preparatory school which ranks among the top five high schools in Chicago. Its athletic division is also strong, and the school’s sports teams have won city championships on numerous occasions. A coveted high school experience, students are accepted based on a combination of their Chicago Public Schools High School Entrance Exam score and their 7th/8th grade academic performance.
Another private schooling option is St. Benedict Preparatory School (3900 N Leavitt St), locally known as “St. Ben’s.” It serves children from preschool through high school, and has a long-standing presence and involvement in the neighborhood through its parish and private education.
For after school and summer programming, many parents keep their kids active at Hamlin Park (3035 N Hoyne Ave) or Revere (Paul) Park (2509 W Irving Park Rd), both of which have fields for baseball, soccer and football, along with courts for basketball and tennis. Hamlin Park also has a fitness center and an outdoor pool, offering classes like yoga, boxing and Olympic weightlifting.
Adults can also stay active by booking a personal training session at Victory Training (2212 W Roscoe St). This boutique fitness center also offers reserved fitness stations throughout the week for those looking to have uninterrupted time and personal space to get their workout in. For something along the lines of a member-based fitness club, there’s also Ravenswood Fitness Center (1958 W Montrose Ave) offering both classes and open gym.
Weekly runs to the grocery store are a breeze with four large grocers within a two-mile radius: Mariano’s (3350 N Western Ave), Jewel-Osco (3400 N Western Ave), Trader Joe’s (3745 N Lincoln Ave) and ALDI (2431 W Montrose Ave).
And when it’s time to decompress and enjoy some fresh air, residents can walk, run, or bike the 312 RiverRun trail along the North Branch Chicago River on the west end of the neighborhood, which also connects to the riverfront pedestrian bridge, Riverview Bridge, extending across more than 1,000 feet.
