As this neighborhood names suggests, West DePaul is, in fact, to the west of the DePaul University Lincoln Park campus, one of the largest Catholic and private universities in the country. As a highly ranked city college and nationally-ranked university offering more than 300 undergraduate programs, DePaul University’s student population is both international and diverse. The vibrancy and attractiveness of the University’s campus extend to the areas surrounding it - fun bars, delicious eateries, nightly entertainment. Residents of the West DePaul neighborhood enjoy the proximity to attractions and amenities near DePaul University and the greater Lincoln Park neighborhood, while also having their own conveniences within this quiet pocket on the western edge of Lincoln Park.
The area is anchored by Wrightwood Park, which features a playground, outdoor pool, football/soccer field, basketball court, a volleyball court and a running track. The streets and blocks that weave through the neighborhood are adorned with trees and beautiful residential architecture. Surrounded by major streets on all four sides of the neighborhood, West DePaul residents have quick access to other parts of Lincoln Park, as well as shops, restaurants, bars and other service businesses.
Where is West DePaul?
West DePaul is the portion of Lincoln Park that falls to the west of N Southport Ave, and runs to its western border of Ashland Ave. It is nestled between W Diversey Ave to the north and W Fullerton Ave to the south.
The neighborhood boundaries are located within the 32nd Ward on the western end and the 2nd Ward on the eastern end. The area shares the 60614 zip code of Lincoln Park.
The CTA bus routes that service the major streets bordering the West DePaul neighborhood are the easiest forms of public transit around the neighborhood. Those bus routes include the #74 Fullerton, the #76 Diversey, and the #9 Ashland.
The #74 bus will take you east to the Fullerton station to connect you to the Red, Brown and Purple lines. The # 76 bus route leads to the Diversey station at Sheffield for access to the Brown and Purple lines. All these train lines will take you to downtown Chicago and other north, northwest and south side neighborhoods.

Clybourn Ave), Aldi (2600 N Clybourn Ave) and Jewel-Osco (2550 N Clybourn Ave) all within close proximity of each other along Clybourn Ave, less than a mile from the western border of West DePaul. To the east is a Whole Foods at 959 W Fullerton Ave.
For quick necessities there’s a Walgreens (1520 W Fullerton Ave) on the south end of the neighborhood.
Neighborhood kids can spend afternoons and weekends enjoying fun and play at Wrightwood Park (2534 N Greenview Ave). And during the summer months they can splash around and swim in the park’s public pool.
Families looking for schools near where they buy a home in West DePaul have the following options in the vicinity: William H. Prescott Elementary (1632 W Wrightwood Ave), Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy (1651 W Diversey Pkwy), and St. Josaphat School (2245 N Southport Ave).
Of course, there are other public elementary schools and high schools throughout Lincoln Park, as well as private institutions that serve grades K-12.
